Sisterhood of the World Bloggers (or just NC!)

HELLO!

Last week I took a little bit of a blogging break.  It wasn’t necessarily planned, but at the same time, I was traveling for work and just didn’t have time to blog – and I’m not a fan of announcing to the internet that I’m out of town.  Anyway, I’ve missed the blogging world!  While I was away from this little corner of the world, Claire nominated me to participate in the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award … so here it goes! (You may read Claire’s answers here)

1. How did you decide on your blog name?

e2d09f1875cf37066b34b888589d1820

I decided to name my blog That Wasn’t The Plan because plans don’t always work – and it’s ok!  Far too often I’m way too hard on myself if something doesn’t work the way I think it should.  (Because really, how many times have we heard that God has the master plan if we just trust Him?!?!)  It has taken me a long time to accept that even though a lot of my plans don’t work the way I think they should, I’m not a failure or anything less.  Yes, it’s a struggle.  And yes, I’m still learning to let go of control, but most importantly – some of the best moments and memories come from failed plans! 🙂

2. What tip would you offer new bloggers?

6d1a8299f16a7e8277af8e64ade9a8f9

This is so true for so many aspects of life, but definitely with anything related to social media.  I mean multiple blogs exist; some accumulate serious traffic, some are only visited by 3 people.  But you know what?  IT DOESN’T MATTER!  The only thing that matters is that the blog “owner” is happy!  Blog for you. Blog as you.  Don’t try to be someone you are not.

3. What was your dream job growing up?

170255133cbaecce900fbddbdbf91ae4

For the longest time I wanted to be a 2nd grade teacher.  *I even took the sticky tack off of the corners of the posters in the elementary school hallways while standing in the pick up or lunch lines so I could take it home and use it when I played school*  But in high school, after being really disappointed in the political correctness that was sweeping through the school systems (I mean who has ever heard of a Spider Party or a Snowflake Party or Winter Break? HECK NO!  It’s a Halloween Party, Christmas Party, and CHRISTMAS BREAK!) I said no to teaching and decided I wanted to be an Athletic Trainer (collegiate).   None of that came true – see, plans fail! 🙂

4. What would you love to get paid to do now?f4fdaca1e374c3e77989b5e1382eaf54

Is it too cliché to say I’m doing it?  Well, part of it!  I really enjoy my part-time job.  BUT I do have a job I would LOVE.  I’d really like to be some sort of a Quality Control Consultant.   I’m not exactly sure how to make it happen, but I do have a plan.  It’s a work in progress, and I’ll let you know if I figure it out.

5. What is your favorite season?

fall

Goodness I love fall!  I am happiest in shorts and a sweater or jeans and a hoodie.  I am happiest lounging on the couch reading a book with the windows open while a cool breeze sweeps through and an apple cinnamon candle is burning.  I just love a chill in the air!

6. What is your favorite summer outfit?

I LOVED this dress so much….

that I purchased this option,

IMG_20150626_134024470

and the solid black option!  Yep, 3 dresses in the same style and I have pretty much lived in them this summer!  I love that I can throw the dress on with flip flips or sandals.  I can add a necklace to dress it up or wear it as is.  And if I want to add a bit of “fancy”, I’ll wear wedges.  The BEST $30 (total!) I’ve ever spent!

7. What is your favorite summer cocktail?

hurricane

Since I just came back from a day in New Orleans, I’d say Hurricane (because drinking in the streets is just fantastic!)  However, I really like homemade sangria!  White wine is my preference, but I do enjoy a red wine sangria as long as it isn’t super sweet.

8. Favorite summer memory?

brewery

For Summer 2015, I’d have to say taking my grandfather out for a few drinks.  He was really excited to be out with his grandkids!

9. Who would play you in a movie about your life?

I’d have to go with Jennifer Garner.  Mainly because the wife of a former boss always called me Jennifer because she thought I resembled her.  But if Jennifer Garner isn’t available, I’d be ok with Sandra Bullock.

10. What is your favorite tip for balancing all the “in-betweens” in your life?

Organization is key!  I don’t leave home without my planner.  Yes, it is 2015 and I still keep a paper & pen planner.  I love having an overall month page, and then pages for each week for details.  Oh, and all things Sharpie Pen related….love color coding!

Alright Julie, it’s your turn to play!  And for anyone else reading this, feel free to play along as well!  Just make sure you leave a link to your post in the comments!!

  1. So I was just thinking that Jennifer Garner totally would be the perfect person to play you when I noticed you called me out. I accept the challenge. And I totally see the Jennifer Garner resemblance in your pesonalities!
