5 on Friday: Movies

It’s another wonderful (although rainy) 5 on Friday with the lovely April!

download

The last movie I saw in a movie theater was Pitch Perfect 2.

Before that, it was American Sniper. And before that it was When The Game Stands Tall.  All very diferent.  All very good.

So, I thought I’d compile a list of movies that I’d like to watch.  Growing up, Friday was synonymous with movies (and pizza and popcorn and sleepovers). #ChildhoodIsCalling

#1 – The Intern – The previews were funny, yet heartwarming.  I have high hopes for this one!  Oh and it looks like a great group of cast members.

20150929060100!The_Intern_Poster

#2 – SPY – Melissa McCarthy.  Bridesmaids & The Heat.  AND Melissa and Rose Byrne in a movie together again, yea, this is going to be funny!  I’m pretty sure Allison Janney also makes an appearance.

7983

#3 – The Martian – I’ve had a few friends see this and they seemed to enjoy it.  Another friend is still reading the book and loves it.

sq_martian

#4 – Burnt – Hello, Bradley Cooper & Sienna Miller together again?  Yes please!  I also watched their (separate) press interviews for the movie and I am really excited about it.

#5 – Our Brand Is Crisis – Sandra Bullock.  Also, watched Sandra & Billy Bob’s interview with Ellen and now I really want to watch the movie!!

Any additional movie suggestions?

I tend to watch some of my favorites on repeat, because if you can’t quote Pitch Perfect, Baby Mama, Bridesmaids, The Proposal, and Christmas Vacation (just to name a few), what’s the point?

Happy Friday, friends!!

5 on Friday: Skylines

I’m OBSESSED with city skylines.

I scour street art displays, art galleries, anything with pictures/paintings, looking for the perfect skyline piece.

I have a vision for how I’d like to display my favorite skyline pieces, and a lot of thought went into it.  You’re probably thinking “who makes a pro/con list for skyline art?” I do – that’s who!  It’s serious.  Am I looking for sunsets? Skyline at night? Seasonal? Pictures? Paintings? Sketches?  Serious questions here people! 🙂

I haven’t purchased a single piece yet, and I also do not have the wall space for my vision. #OneDay

So, here are my 5 current favorites:

#1 Charlotte, NC at night – hello Panthers!

#2 Charlotte, NC at night – July 4th

#3 Charlotte, NC at night – Romare Bearden Park

#4 NYC at night – Top of the Rock

#5 NYC – snow covered – from the photographer I purchased a few prints from, but his website is currently down 😦

Do you have a favorite skyline?

I’ve also entertained the idea of adding a skyline piece from each of my favorite travel destinations.  So many choices!

Have a GREAT weekend friends!

Check out the others celebrating Friday:

5 on Friday: HOME

Friday, sweet Friday, it took you forever to arrive this week…yet I feel like it was just Monday.  #WackyWeek

#1. HOMEcoming

Tonight is the “big” Homecoming game at the high school I attended.  The youngest kiddo of one of the families I consistently babysat for all through High School, and would watch when I was home from college (and still keep in touch with) is attending HER first HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING tonight. #WhatTheWhat

Since I was pretty much part of their family (and attended all family events), I took the kiddos to a lot of my high school commitments, and their Mom was always a Student Council Advisor, so the kiddos weren’t strangers to Homecoming Week festivities or extracurricular events.  But to think it’s HER turn to partake in the traditions is just craziness!!

#2 Friends from HOME

When I was home a few weeks ago, I was looking for something and ended up flipping through my Senior Year scrapbook.  I like blogging.  I love Instagram.  And I REALLY like gallery walls in my home, but I wish I never stopped scrapbooking.  It really is a great hobby and so very worth it.  Anyway, the only other “throwback” picture I have on my phone, which also happens to be from Senior Year Homecoming, (and also from my senior year scrapbook) is the one below.  A lot of my friendships from middle and high school didn’t last, but from elementary school to now, this friendship is one of the best!

IMG_0387  #TotallyWantThatCardiBack

#3 HOME is where the grandparents are

My sweet grandmother who HATES to have her picture taken, so you really have to be sly like a fox 🙂

IMG_0362

And my grandfather who loves that he can see himself in the phone, yet still doesn’t smile! 🙂

IMG_0323

#4 HOME is where butter is not scarce

A fantastic “home” recipe is coming to the blog soon – but for now, holy butter!

IMG_0361

#5 HOME is where I grew up

IMG_0381

HOME is where your people are.  Home is defined many ways.  I often think home isn’t necessarily the driveway you enter, but the family, friends, and framily you have when you open the door.

I’m lucky to have 2 fantastic grandparents to come home to, and a mother who picks me up from the airport regardless of what time my flight arrives. 🙂

Happy weekend, friends!

5 Things I Wish I Was Wearing Today

It is Friday, September 18, 2015 and the last time I checked the weather, the high today for Charlotte was 86*.

I love Fall.  I love the crisp chill in the air.  I love my fall/winter wardrobe.  When it’s still in the 80’s, it’s not exactly the time to be the girl wearing cute Fall clothes but sweating profusely because Mother Nature thinks the Summer months should be June, July, August, and September.

Here are 5 Things I Wish I Was Wearing Today:

A Fun Red Necklace

F red necklace

A Navy & White Striped Long Sleeved Shirt

5 on Friday: Home Grown – Charlotte Edition

It’s another 5 on Friday link up with the lovely April of A Liz Adventures!

Skyline_Night_970x550

I’m a huge fan of supporting local, small businesses.  If I have the opportunity to buy from someone local, rather than someone with a massive marketing budget and a huge staff, I will!  Support the dreamers – the doers – the neighbors!small business 1

I like to expand my network of local vendors, and often times explore a new area of town to pick up what I purchased or to shop (and I really don’t like paying to ship items because in some cases, shipping is way too high).  Today, I wanted to share 5 of my local favorites with you (in no particular order)!

*if you click the image, it’ll direct you to the item posted or the overall website.  no one asked me to blog about the below businesses.  actually, out of the 5 listed, I only know 1 business owner.*

Hey, It’s Friday: You’ve Got Mail Edition

download

5 on Friday…things that make me happy: mailbox edition.

you'vegotmail

I love receiving fun snail mail (and I bet you do to!).  But what I really love is sending friends cards/packages etc..  I have a few guidelines/suggestions for care packages that I think add a little something special.  Include a memory, include something the recipient loves, include something the two of you enjoy, include a snack – doesn’t have to be anything major, but just a pack of gum/favorite candy bar/cookies/local treasure.  It’s the thought that counts – and it’s an added surprise!

#1. Fun cards.

A few months ago I took a walk around my new neighborhood and walked into a local paper store.  They had some cute things, but my favorite was a series of small, flat cards from a local artist/designer.  If you click the image, it goes to her SHOP.  The only thing I’m not fully on board with is it’s not a “tent” card – as in it doesn’t open to write on the inside.  I understand that it’s a flat card AND it’s thick paper & letter pressed so the ink from the back doesn’t run, but it would be nice if it was folded (I do still really like the design).  I also think the card would make a great magnet.  I have some friends who had to relocate and are no longer in CLT but miss The QC desperately – if I add a magnet to the entire back of the card, it would spice up their refrigerator! (don’t worry – it’s a tiny card, not standard size, so ok as a magnet) 🙂  I just love letter pressed items!  Seriously though, I may be a bit of a paper snob.

clt sky card

#2. I love custom stationary.  Notepads. Cards.

I should probably place an order with The Studio by Fashion & Feathers for a block of custom stationary.  Ya know, something fun like “Megan, Go to Target. Buy These Things” or “From The Desk of Megan” or maybe just my name in a cool font?  Who knows….Claire, that’s who!  Have an event coming up?  She’d be happy to design your invites.

studio

#3. Address stamps/labels.

I usually buy address labels from Target or Shutterfly when they are on sale, but if it’s a special event, I’ll occasionally make my own.  However, an address stamp is a great gift for new homeowners!  It’s also a great gift for a recently married couple – if they are in transition, you could always give them a gift card for the stamp!

#4. Box Of Sunshine

box_of_sunshine

How cute is this to send to a person who just needs a bit of happy?  You may need to click the picture to enlarge it, but if you click the picture it’ll direct you to the website (thanks Pinterest) for more ideas and the printables.  This is also great for that person who loves the color yellow! 🙂  Occasionally my Mom would send care packages during my college years – always random favorites and I (as well as my roommates) loved them!  I think everyone needs a surprise and a smile every so often!

#5. Thank you.

Claire TY Cards

I still think it’s important to write thank you notes, and I personally think a thank you card says way more than a text or an email.  Remember Claire & The Studio from #2?  Well, she has these super cute Thank You cards in her ETSY Shop, The Studio.  If you need Thank You cards (you do, you should always have them – I have a pack in my travel bag for work and a  few in my laptop bag, why? because even the hotel staff needs a thank you!) Check them out!

***OH SNAP! The cards are on sale this weekend!  Buy them – and then send me one since I let you know about this great deal. Kidding. But seriously, buy some!***

008bd6885aa439dfbcd3efebf4dec3e1

*I did a Google search for “You’ve Got Mail” for an image to begin this post.  I also loved this quote from the movie.  Isn’t it crazy how 90% of that movie is probably outdated now?  Brick & Mortar book stores are few and far between, maybe 5% of the population still pays for an AOL email address, no one has that dial up internet sound anymore.  Crazy*

Happy Friday!

Have a great weekend – don’t forget to buy stamps! 🙂

Hey Friday: July 10th

FRIDAY haThis about sums it up.  Kidding!

Instead of listing 5 favorite moments from the past week, I’ve decided to go with snippets from TV shows that still make me laugh or that resonate with me!

Let’s dive right in, shall we?

#1.  Gotta love Barbara Jean! 🙂

reba

Do you ever feel this way?  Sometimes I feel lonely, because I’m alone.

#2 Rachel…spot on

Rachel - YES

Yep, this kind of goes hand in hand with #1 – but doesn’t sound as depressing! 😉

#3 Claire Dunphy is a hero sometimes

claire ha

I mean how many times do you just know everyone is thinking the SAME thing but no one will voice it, so you do? And then you feel a glimmer of regret.

#4 …and her husband, Crap Bag

PCBH

One of my favorite episodes!  Gotta love Phoebe! (that’s P as in Phoebe. H as in Hoebe. O as in Oebe…)

#5. So. Very. True. (sad!)

mod fam

Luke with the zinger!  Sometimes I wish we could go back to a world with less technology.

#6 Bonus!  Because TGIF

Have a GREAT weekend!
