What Do You Do For Fun?

This is my 4th time writing this post.  For some reason, it won’t save, and my computer keeps freezing.

I view these issues as Gods way of saying “Megan, you’re dancing on the line of appropriate & inappropriate – so I’m going to take care of this for you.” 😉  #Noted

So here’s the post without my strong opinions about parents shoving tablets in their kids faces instead of books because the parent is too overwhelmed and doesn’t want to invest in their child abridged version.  #YesIAlmostWentThere #StrongOpinions #EachSituationIsDifferent #BookBeforeBattery #ColorBeforeCharge

You’ve probably already seen THIS commercial or at least read an article about it.

Hat tip to Nature Valley, because I find this commercial hauntingly beautiful.  Why?  Because it is so very sad, but so very true.

2 year olds these days have their own iPads/iPhones/Kindles, and I’m pretty sure you could hand any smart phone to a 3 year old and they’d know how to turn it on, unlock it, and navigate the main screen.  #SoSad

So, what do you do for fun?

Hopefully it’s something worth writing about or sharing – because you can’t photograph and frame that time you sat in your room for 4 hours playing a video game.

WOW Wednesday: The Deskable

Remember when I had this PLAN to build my own desk?

And a good part of that plan was to just buy the wood, glue it, hammer it, and be done?

And remember when I mentioned building a “desk” I really meant a table, because I wanted to stand, so the desk wouldn’t be traditional with drawers or anything like that?

thehumangenius

Well, Operation Desk quickly became a bad structurally unsound idea for me to continue.  Until my super awesome friend Julie volunteered her husband Scott to build my deskable! 🙂

Yes, Julie cooks and Scott builds things #PowerCouple

It has taken me far too long to write this post, because nothing I write seems to adequately describe how thankful and grateful I am for Julie & Scott, and how much I LOVE my deskable!  Seriously, the vision in my head was nothing compared to how FANTASTIC it looks!  I mean I had a vision, and Scott surpassed it!

Look at this craftsman ship for the back legs:

IMG_20150729_082112924

And the back and front legs:

IMG_20150719_175320048

WOW NOW!

IMG_20150719_175308338_HDR

Isn’t it GORGEOUS????

*the desk is 100% level, my floors are not 😦 The original location for the deskable was perfectly level, but it was too far from both the electrical outlet and the internet/phone outlet.  So, the corner (where the deskable is now) was the only option.  This means it is not on a level surface, hence the cardboard and paper wedges under the legs.  I’m working on something better, but until I stain/paint, this works now!*

IMG_20150720_093708323IMG_20150719_173719258IMG_20150719_173936450

I still need to stain/paint it, and I’m going to paint it white.  This way, it’ll match, and it’ll match the normal sized table I have my printer on.  Part of me wanted to wait to post until I had time to stain/paint, but I realized that probably won’t happen until this weekend or next weekend.

I LOVE it!  If Scott decides to open up a Deskable Designs store, I’ll be sure to let you know!

See, wasn’t it worth the wait?!?! 🙂  I’ll answer for you: It was!!

Category Unknown: Shampoo & Conditioner

I had a really hard time determining if this would “qualify” as a This For That (forgot about those!) or a Throwback Thursday post.  I even had it scheduled as a Throwback Thursday, and then a This For That, but I never finished it in time.  Well, my blog, my rules, right?!  This is now an uncategorized post….with a nod to everything!

images

Well, on this Category Unknown day, let me tell you a little bit about myself. Specifically, my hair washing habits.

I am a shower and wash my hair daily kind of gal. Even if I stay in my pj’s from the time I wake up until before bed, I’ll shower, wash my hair, and put clean pjs back on.

On great hair days, I’d still go to bed and wake up the next morning looking like my hair had been through a tornado. I was never the girl who had good 2nd day hair, hence the daily washing and drying and most likely straightening.

I hate the idea of product upon product being added to my luscious locks, and repeated aerosol spray use is just not good for you to inhale, so I was never a fan of hair spray, or mousse, and I have no interest in “dry shampoo”.  I was a HUGE fan of Herbal Essences, and Pantene Pro V for my shampoo & conditioning needs.  When people my Mom would come visit, they’d she’d ask how many people lived in my 1 bedroom apartment because I had the following in my shower:

Herbal-Essences-Smooth-Shine-Collection

Image-1

14381141

Yes, it looks excessive, but I had a method to the madness, and copious amounts of shampoo & conditioner. The Herbal Essences bottles were my “every day” choice, Pantene was weekends (or when I thought my hair needed a midweek change up…like when it was getting dry from Herbal Essences) and the 2 in 1 was for those times I was exhausted and had no desire to wash my hair and I didn’t want to deal with two bottles and two rinse cycles. #StrugglesAreReal

I also kept these in my shower,

HB-307-WT_lrg

because the Westin has my FAVORITE hotel shampoo & conditioner.  It just smells so wonderful.  Marriott, I love my status and my points, but your shampoo & conditioner options smell like a man.  Pretty sure it’s sandalwood and orange.  So that’s like woodchips and goo gone.

ANYWAY, we’ve learned I am all about some washing of the hair.  And you’re probably wondering how I thought this would qualify as a This For That or Throwback Thursday.  Well, buckle up folks, it’s about to get crazy!

If I had a picture of my old shower, you’d see quite the Throwback to the days of LOTS of hair care options.  NOW, not so much! I did a great THIS instead of THAT! 🙂

That’s right.  I have TWO and only TWO bottles in my shower! #Score

BC Clean Rinse2

This is in NO way a post to make you feel like I’m trying to sell you something.  It’s just my story.  And blogging is about sharing your story.

I have to admit, it’s different to switch from a Shampoo & Conditioner with a bunch of harmful ingredients to one that is natural and safe and uses essential oils, and only ingredients that are necessary.  I was addicted to the fragrance of what I used to use, and now I am addicted to the light, refreshing smell of citrus, and how great my hair looks! 🙂

Here’s the rundown on CLEAN, Beautycounter’s Shampoo.

Clean

And RINSE, the conditioner.

Rinse

I’m not sure how it worked, but my hair is now healthier, shiny/silky/cleaner, and I receive more compliments on how great my luscious locks look!  One of the best parts?  I have GREAT 2nd day hair (and yes, I still wash it each day) but I often wake up, throw on clothes, and run a few errands without feeling the need to shower immediately and do my hair, or throwing on a hat.  I brush it and I’m out the door!  Not oily, not funky looking. Love that!

And since someone will read this and ask, let me just anticipate the question: Yes, a kids line exists! It’s called Kidscounter.

Since we can’t forget the kiddos!  Allow me to introduce you 🙂

kidscounter

The kids line smells delicious! I mean I may or may not have used it one day just to check it out (because it’s important to know what you’re educating others about) and not going to lie – it’s great stuff!  NICE DO Shampoo has a great, light orange scent, NOT A KNOT Conditioner definitely wins the “silky smooth” category, and SQUEAKY CLEAN Body Wash has a nice grapefruit scent!  If I had kiddos, I think one of my favorite parts would be the fact that it’s gluten-free, nut-free, leaves hair shiny & soft, silky smooth & tangle free, oh and the ingredients include broccoli seed oil and extracts of carrot root and strawberry, pomegranate and cranberry fruit extracts…so if your kiddo doesn’t eat her veggies, at least she can absorb them through shampoo/conditioner/body wash!  #Kidding

So there we have it.  My random account for Shampoo & Conditioner and how much I shower/wash my hair.

Weekend Recap

I’m seriously still campaigning for a 3 day weekend. #CanIGetAnAMEN?

FRIDAY:

You know how they say it takes a village to raise a child?  Well apparently it also takes a village to be my friend.  Allow me to explain.

Friday was my friend Brandy’s Baby Shower.  I had another friend monogram an adorable gift (that I forgot to take a picture of 😦 ) which I was picking up on my way to the shower.  I packed a box, tissue paper, precut wrapping paper, and tape, so I could wrap the gifts together (I had some other things in the box as well) at my friends house.  Well, I sent her a text when I was on my way over “Hey! Leaving here in 15. I won’t forget to ask you, but in the event I do, would you tie my shirt when I get there? Thanks”  Which was met with a much more elaborate “Oh no!  We aren’t home. Gift on porch“.  So, I drove over, wrapped the gift in the back of my car (could feel the stares from the neighbors) while the strings for my top flapped around in the breeze.  As soon as I was done, I realized I forgot the ribbon.  So I called another friend who lives in between the gift house and the baby shower.  Explained what was up, and lucked out because they were home.  And she tied my shirt and the ribbon:

gift

See, told ya.  Takes a village!

I’d like to point out that despite what this picture shows, I was happy to be at the shower….my face did not get the memo.  And can I just complain for a moment that I LOVE those white pants for the first 5 minutes I have them on, and then they stretch a good 2 sizes before the night is over? Totally forgot about that when I got dressed.

b shower

So excited for sweet baby J to join us in 2 months!!!!

Stephanie & I (blue dress) hadn’t caught up in probably 2 months, so after the shower we grabbed a drink.  I really felt like royalty:

SATURDAY:

I met my friend Loren for coffee, and a trip to Marshall’s!  It was a BEAUTIFUL morning so we walked across the parking lot to just look.  Yea, that never works.  So a cake stand and a pair of shoes later, and we left.

I came home to move some furniture around, and then spent some good quality time with Loren’s adorable little one.  The best part?  We had already spent a few hours together that morning, catching up, so once she got home Saturday night we started talking about a few other things and how we became friends and have been friends for 4 years and all that has happened in that time.  Friends are important – and friends you know you’ll have forever – even better!

SUNDAY:

I went to a friends pool…and finished this book:

book

“If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day.” -Jimmy V

It’s fitting that everything Jimmy V said, I experienced while reading this book. Yep, I ugly cried at the pool today (thank goodness for big sunglasses). Stuart Scott, you sir, were cooler than the flip side of a pillow.

#EveryDayIFight #ESPYS #Perseverance

Hope you had a fantastic weekend!

unWOW Wednesday

That’s right.  Wow Wednesday has now been renamed “unWOW Wednesday”.

Why? Because I lied.

I didn’t mean to.  It just happened.

Today was supposed to be the BIG REVEAL for my super-awesome-amazing-one-of-a-kind-exquisite deskable.

Well, LIFE HAPPENED.

I am swamped with a few projects for my M-F 8am-6pm job (and yes, 2 have timed deadlines very close on the clock).

My “fit it in when I can” job announced a Flash Sale yesterday for BOGO Body Butter.Enrich BOGO Flash Sale 07212015so that’s been a little hectic (in a good way).

And I just haven’t had the time to devote to showing off my deskable the way it should be done.  Sure I could slap pictures and a few words on a post, but my deskable deserves so much more!

I PROMISE to write about it soon.  It was definitely worth the wait to have the deskable, so I keep telling myself it’s worth the wait to post about it!

Thanks for understanding!

Weekend Recap

The beginning of the weekend was pretty cool. But this is how I feel today:

37851-I-Really-Need-A-Day-Between-Saturday-And-Sunday

Friday night, I went with some friends to the soft opening of The Cellar (Charlotte Agenda article about it – no affiliation, just love that daily email!).  It’s a pretty cool concept. The owner of Duckworth’s decided to open an upscale, small plates, exotic hard to find beer, place with a speakeasy vibe in the basement of Duckworth’s uptown.  The “rule” was you’d receive a discount on food, but you had to give your honest advice throughout/on paper at the end. Sounds good to me!

Our picks & collective thoughts:

small plates

  • Brussel Sprouts – these were DELICIOUS! We almost ordered another plate!
  • Mediterranean Flat Bread – the flavors were fantastic! Our only complaint was too much arugula. I believe our line was “this was too messy to eat – definitely not date food!” *because obviously 3 single girls think about food as “date or friends”
  • A lamb dish (I forget what it was called) – I am not a lamb fan, but the plate looked cool.

entrées

  • Shrimp & grits – the person who ordered this said it was too salty. The dish had a lot going on! – shrimp, sausage, some other stuff
  • Scallop something – person who ordered this enjoyed it.
  • Cheeseburger – make sure you read the menu, the bacon was jalapeño bacon. My mouth was on fire after 2 bites! But the presentation was cool! *I had wanted a burger since July 4th, so it had to happen!

IMG_20150717_185931384

dessert

  • Smores truffle – homemade marshmallow sauce = yes please! The flavors were great, but this was also great hard to eat. Definitely meant to share but almost impossible to cut it to share it. We mentioned it would be best to crumble the Graham Crackers first, or at least break them, and drizzle the sauce & crumble the chocolate truffle.
  • Corn flakes crusted french toast – we did not order this, but I wish we did!

overall thoughts

I think it’s a great place for a snack & drink before a show, or meeting friends out. It’s also a great place to catch up with someone you haven’t seen in a while since it’s not a distracting atmosphere. It’s quaint – 77 seats – and a cool vibe, but obviously dark, hence no pictures for this post. :). I’d go back just for dessert because I really want to try that corn flakes crusted french toast – it came with carrot cake butter AND vanilla ice cream! 🙂 I wish them well and hope it’s successful! It was definitely fun to head downstairs!

Screenshot_2015-07-17-19-50-04

This guy is next to the restaurant, so clearly we stopped for a picture – although I didn’t get the memo about wearing teal!

Since it was approximately 200 degrees outside, we took the Cruise Cart guy up on his offer to drive us back to Lauren’s…

Screenshot_2015-07-17-19-58-16

Mind you, we walked the 7 blocks TO dinner and had already walked 5 blocks back, before the cart came. Great concept…companies sponsor the cart, riders tip. I like that! And according to my favorite morning email (Charlotte Agenda), one of the carts is a TRIVIA cart.  I’d totally ride that cart through all of CLT if it meant trivia! Cruise on, folks, cruise on!  Oh – and Friday Fireworks from the Parklet.  Great win Knights!!

IMG_20150717_221223660

Saturday, the Friday Night dinner crew, decided to check out Red Clay Cider Works.

IMG_20150718_184225181

It was their Grand Opening. Lots of activities in the front parking lot, food trucks, and a man singing. It was an experience to say the least! After enjoying dinner on a barrel, we ventured inside to see what that was all about.

IMG_20150718_202441

Apparently we missed the photo booth. 🙂

I will say, I had the South End Sweet and had it been cold, I would’ve really liked it. It was served a few degrees below room temperature, and I ordered it outside if that tells you anything (we did NOT experience a cold front if that’s what you’re thinking)!  The general thought is if I was out in public and saw a Red Clay Cider Works item on the menu, I’d order it. Not sure if I’d go back right away. It was stuffy inside the place as well, no one wants to drink a warm beverage and be hot in the process! Definitely a fall place.  Would be cool if they had a few TV’s for Panther’s games – and tailgating in the parking lot since they utilize the parking lots to gather people, not park vehicles.  Opening Weekends are learning experiences so I’m excited to see what they do next!

My FAVORITE part of the weekend???

1437362456135-2106747493

Julie & Scott delivered my standing deskable! (a deskable is a desk and a table…I’m sure Merriam Webster will call me soon about dictionary entry!)

I LOVE it! And it deserves its own post. So enjoy the pic above and come back Wednesday for the full reveal!

Hope you had a GREAT weekend!  Here’s to an even better week!

Hey, It’s Friday: You’ve Got Mail Edition

download

5 on Friday…things that make me happy: mailbox edition.

you'vegotmail

I love receiving fun snail mail (and I bet you do to!).  But what I really love is sending friends cards/packages etc..  I have a few guidelines/suggestions for care packages that I think add a little something special.  Include a memory, include something the recipient loves, include something the two of you enjoy, include a snack – doesn’t have to be anything major, but just a pack of gum/favorite candy bar/cookies/local treasure.  It’s the thought that counts – and it’s an added surprise!

#1. Fun cards.

A few months ago I took a walk around my new neighborhood and walked into a local paper store.  They had some cute things, but my favorite was a series of small, flat cards from a local artist/designer.  If you click the image, it goes to her SHOP.  The only thing I’m not fully on board with is it’s not a “tent” card – as in it doesn’t open to write on the inside.  I understand that it’s a flat card AND it’s thick paper & letter pressed so the ink from the back doesn’t run, but it would be nice if it was folded (I do still really like the design).  I also think the card would make a great magnet.  I have some friends who had to relocate and are no longer in CLT but miss The QC desperately – if I add a magnet to the entire back of the card, it would spice up their refrigerator! (don’t worry – it’s a tiny card, not standard size, so ok as a magnet) 🙂  I just love letter pressed items!  Seriously though, I may be a bit of a paper snob.

clt sky card

#2. I love custom stationary.  Notepads. Cards.

I should probably place an order with The Studio by Fashion & Feathers for a block of custom stationary.  Ya know, something fun like “Megan, Go to Target. Buy These Things” or “From The Desk of Megan” or maybe just my name in a cool font?  Who knows….Claire, that’s who!  Have an event coming up?  She’d be happy to design your invites.

studio

#3. Address stamps/labels.

I usually buy address labels from Target or Shutterfly when they are on sale, but if it’s a special event, I’ll occasionally make my own.  However, an address stamp is a great gift for new homeowners!  It’s also a great gift for a recently married couple – if they are in transition, you could always give them a gift card for the stamp!

#4. Box Of Sunshine

box_of_sunshine

How cute is this to send to a person who just needs a bit of happy?  You may need to click the picture to enlarge it, but if you click the picture it’ll direct you to the website (thanks Pinterest) for more ideas and the printables.  This is also great for that person who loves the color yellow! 🙂  Occasionally my Mom would send care packages during my college years – always random favorites and I (as well as my roommates) loved them!  I think everyone needs a surprise and a smile every so often!

#5. Thank you.

Claire TY Cards

I still think it’s important to write thank you notes, and I personally think a thank you card says way more than a text or an email.  Remember Claire & The Studio from #2?  Well, she has these super cute Thank You cards in her ETSY Shop, The Studio.  If you need Thank You cards (you do, you should always have them – I have a pack in my travel bag for work and a  few in my laptop bag, why? because even the hotel staff needs a thank you!) Check them out!

***OH SNAP! The cards are on sale this weekend!  Buy them – and then send me one since I let you know about this great deal. Kidding. But seriously, buy some!***

008bd6885aa439dfbcd3efebf4dec3e1

*I did a Google search for “You’ve Got Mail” for an image to begin this post.  I also loved this quote from the movie.  Isn’t it crazy how 90% of that movie is probably outdated now?  Brick & Mortar book stores are few and far between, maybe 5% of the population still pays for an AOL email address, no one has that dial up internet sound anymore.  Crazy*

Happy Friday!

Have a great weekend – don’t forget to buy stamps! 🙂

The ESPYS – Speeches

13065444913f9d4c310174b95046997e

I’ve always loved The ESPYS

The traditions, the jokes, the highlight reel, the excitement, and most of all the speeches.

Yes, the speeches.

Everyone has heard at least all or part of Jimmy Valvano’s speech:

a781b43e40228dfce7d311a89f9f9062 2d81e4b8a2fe06215bd4e8aa088b6551

And if you’ve been living under the hardwoods and haven’t heard/watched his iconic 1993 ESPYS speech, watch it HERE before reading any further.

In my opinion, it was Stuart Scott who stole the show last year.  Do I dare say he’s the Jimmy V of at least this generation?  They were both pioneers in their field, fought a good fight, and were called home way too soon.

52b7667fd7f5435a0d5dbbe17b152919

stu

As a Stuart Scott fan (in Middle School I read our Morning Announcements over the school wide intercom…cool kid points…and the football coach always wrote the best sports recaps because they started with “Boo ya, Boo ya, Boo ya the Bucs win again!” or “That kid is cooler than the flip side of the pillow.” Yep, Coach copied Stuart.  I loved the 2014 ESPYS and seeing Stu receive the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance.  If for some crazy reason you missed his speech last year, PLEASE watch it.  Or watch it again HERE.  It won’t get old.

*disclaimer: now that my shirt is tear soaked…you may not want to watch Jimmy & Stuart back to back.  let’s proceed, shall we?!*

IMG_20150715_222418

If you like to laugh out loud and silently cry while in the prescence of strangers, make this your pool book.  If not, read it from the comforts of your home!  Either way, join me in reading this book (picture of just Stuart links to book at B&N)!  Seriously though, I’m 4 chapters in and love it.  Definitely highlighter worthy. 🙂  Also, I had been laying on my stomach, hence the towel pattern on my legs!

Click the picture to peruse the Old Try – one of my favorite businesses and the creator of the gem above!

As for the actual award show, Devon & Leah Still received the 2015 Jimmy V Award for Perseverance.

2026fe748fc66cb31df42e8a48f44ff2

If you click the Still Strong shirt, it brings you to a cool website with an overview video of the Still’s.

image39

For all the corruption which often clouds the professional sports world, it was really nice to see maybe 98% of the NFL (perhaps 100%, I don’t remember) rally behind Devon & Leah and it was great to see other sports support them as well!  I love when so much power (and salaries that are way too high) are used for good! 🙂

devon-still-crying-new-england-patriots-daughter-cancer-lead

still

I DVRd the show and have only watched the 1st hour, so I have not made it to Devon’s speech yet.  However, I bet it’s a good one!

*NOTE. I am not affiliated with any speech/shirts/prints/videos I posted.  I just wanted to share.  No compensation, just happiness.  Feel free to do your research, peruse the websites, and enjoy…or don’t. It’s up to you!!*

WOW Wednesday: Cooking

wow wednesday3

Remember that time Julie and I took a cooking class and became award winning chefs?  Well, I used some of those skills and made this delightful mean the other evening.  I also followed my “Rules For Bringing A Meal To Friends” as you’ll see in the final picture!

CHICKEN CAPRESE

First, make your own Balsamic Glaze (super easy).

You add Brown Sugar and Balsamic Vinegar to a pot and cook it until it boils.

balsamic

Remove from heat once it boils and as it sits, the glaze will form.

balsamic glaze

Next, you’ll want to Season The Chicken before you sear and bake it.

seasoning

After you season the chicken, place it in a pan, on medium high heat to sear each side.

chicken pan

It’s important to remember to not move the chicken for at least 2 minutes – until it moves on it’s own – so you don’t ruin/rush the sear.  After you’ve seared both sides, place it in a pan and in the oven to fully bake (25-30 minutes).

While you’re waiting, cut the fresh basil, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese.

basil cut

I like to use a pizza cutter to cut Basil because I think it’s easier than using a knife. Once the chicken finishes baking, add cheese and tomatoes to the top of the chicken and put it back in the oven to melt the cheese.

finished

Once you remove from the oven (SAVOR THAT SMELL!) add the basil and balsamic glaze!

YUM!  Not sure why I don’t have a final product picture.

Since I purchased chicken breasts and chicken tenders, I seasoned and cooked a chicken tender for me and made a sandwich 🙂 Drizzle some balsamic glaze on crusty bread, add a hunk of mozzarella cheese, some fresh basil, warm chicken – YUM!

The downfall of cooking at home rather than a class, turning around from the stove to see this:

sink

That would be Hand Wash on the left, and put it in the Dishwasher on the right.  Apparently I use a LOT of dishes when cooking.

I remember taking a picture of the final meal in the tinfoil disposable container, with the recipe taped to the top, but I’m not sure what happened to it.  So just envision that.

I found my inspiration for Baked Caprese Chicken here.

Enjoy!

Talk About It Tuesday: Bringing A Meal

talk about it2

Over the years, I’ve made a lot of meals for friends who have been sick, or have been busy, or have had babies, or have husbands out of town, etc..  My favorite meal to drop off is after baby is born, because 95% of the time it results in baby snuggles!  I have my own “rules” regarding what I bring and how I do it, so I decided it would be a great share!

b97c17ee7ff1a987669524a8775b9c42

  1. Just Say No To Noodles. I refuse to make anything with pasta/spaghetti sauce because I think far too many people bring lasagna or baked ziti or baked spaghetti once that meal plan circulates.  No one needs a freezer full of lasagna/baked ziti/baked spaghetti, so I like to bring something different!  However, if someone in the group has a FAMOUS sauce recipe or Italian dish, they SHOULD bring it, because it’s what they are known for – but if 20 people are brining a meal over the course of a month or two, 18 shouldn’t be bringing noodles & sauce!
  2. Don’t Do The Dishes.  I ALWAYS drop off the meal in containers that can be tossed – the tinfoil ones (name escapes me).  The person you are bringing a meal too is obviously busy so they do NOT need another dish to wash and they definitely do NOT need to worry about keeping track of containers and returning them to the owner.  Now, if you’d like to drop off the meal in a container with a  lid – make sure you tell the person receiving it that you don’t want the reusable container back.
  3. Bring the entire meal.  If you are bringing a Rotisserie Chicken – don’t show up with just the chicken.  Bring a veggie, your favorite side to make or their favorite side to eat, some bread.  Something else aside from just a chicken. The recipient shouldn’t have to scramble at dinner time to figure out what to serve with the main course you graciously provided!
  4. Mix & Match.  You don’t have to bring a 5 course gourmet meal…and the recipient knows you so they don’t expect you to become an award winning chef!  Totally fine to make the main course and buy the sides.  I’m a huge fan of the “Ready to go” rotisserie chickens at my local grocery store – they are either Original, Garlic Herb, or Lemon Pepper.  Not only is it super easy and a time saver to use the chicken from that, you could also show up with that chicken as is!  And if you’re not someone who enjoys cooking – that’s the beauty of restaurant take-out/curbside to go!  Order their favorite meal from their favorite restaurant!
  5. Don’t forget dessert!  Seriously!  Everyone loves a sweet treat!  Maybe some cookies, brownies, seasonal desert.  The recipients favorite.  Have some fun with it – but keep it simple!

At the end of the day, you are helping out a friend – and they are beyond thankful for your generosity.

If you are planning meals to bring to a friend after they have a baby, I LOVE using MealBaby.com … I am not affiliated with them and this is not a sponsored post, I’m just a fan!  The website is great – the hostess adds all of the details (recipients food likes/dislikes, allergies, how many you are feeding, drop off “rules”) and the dates that a meal is needed are in one color, once that date is taken it is moved to “red” and if you hover over the date you can find out who is bringing a meal that day AND what they are bringing.  So, if the meal options for this week are Tuesday & Thursday and Thursday is already taken, I can see that someone is dropping off Beef & Broccoli.  So on Tuesday, I’ll bring Grilled Lemon Pepper Chicken with Cesar Salad.

Do you have any “go to” meal drop off recipes?  Come back tomorrow for my Caprese Chicken recipe, pictures of the process, and how I packaged it to bring it to a new Mom & Dad last night! 🙂
